Event description
Todd Edwards (ret) Atlanta Fire Rescue will be presenting two of his classes. Breaking Barriers and No Fear Leadership 2.0.

About this Event

Captain Todd Edwards (Ret) has over 36 years of fire service experience. Starting at 16 years old for a small combination department in Ohio, Captain Edwards spent more than 30 years with the city of Atlanta, serving in a variety of positions and divisions, including Assistant Fire Chief. Although retired, Captain Edwards remains the lead instructor / coordinator for Atlanta’s Officer Development Program.

Breaking Barriers: Disabilities Awareness for First Responders. This program has been designed to provide all first responders with a better understanding of both Down Syndrome and Autism. This class was prepared through research and actual interviews with parents, care givers and people with Down Syndrome and/or Autism. The idea behind this is to educate our First Responders on how to recognize, understand, and communicate with these individuals in both emergency and non-emergency situations.

No Fear Leadership 2.0: Just as the fire ground has changed, so has Leadership. This program is not about theories and canned ideas, it’s a realistic and honest approach on leadership in today’s ever changing fire service. Students will examine and participate in open discussions covering everything from bad bosses, training failures, diversity, and social media issues. No Fear is based on real life failures and successes over a 35 year career and provides solutions to real concerns our current and future leaders face.
