Event description

Description

This web-based class will describe effective methods for challenging the unhealthy expression of race-based hatred and violence. Participants will practice responding to inappropriate comments and will discuss options for more complex situations. Facilitated by Tracy Brown from Intentional Inclusion Inc.

Attend this online class and you'll never again have to say,

  • I would really like to speak up when someone makes a racially insensitive comment, but I don't know what to say.
  • I don't want to just be a bystander when someone is rude to my coworkers because of their race or ethnicity, but I'm not sure what to do.
  • I was so frustrated at the store today when the cashier kept ignoring that customer just because she had a heavy accent; but there wasn't anything I could do about it.

When people are rude, unfair or exhibit threatening behavior based on another person's race or ethnicity most of us feel uncomfortable or angry. But we also don't speak up because it's uncomfortable, or it feels dangerous and we don't want to make the situation worse.

Tracy will share specific ways to confront negative bias. She'll suggest ways you can help to create safety. And she'll tell you when -and how - to effectively complain.

The webinar will be from approximately one hour in length. However, Tracy will stay online for an additional 30 minutes to respond to your specific questions and to help you develop responses to situations you need help with.

We will be using the ZOOM platform for both audio and video access. No software download is required and ZOOM is easily accessible from both desktop and laptops, as well as tablets and smartphones. You can also dial in by phone if you are unable to participate online. If you need to test compatibility, visit https://zoom.us/test
