Event Details

“True belonging doesn’t require us to change who we are. It requires us to be who we are.” Social scientist Brené Brown, PhD, LMSW, has sparked a global conversation about the experiences that bring meaning to our lives—experiences of courage, vulnerability, love, belonging, shame, and empathy. In Braving the Wilderness, Brown redefines what it means to truly belong in an age of increased polarization. With her trademark mix of research, storytelling, and honesty, Brown will again change the cultural conversation while mapping a clear path to true belonging

So now what?  How do we do that?

Called to action facilitators Holly Duckworth & Nick Hemmert bring their collective experience and expertise together to offer this weekly discussion, but more critical application group.  The intention is to activate the conversation on how to live the work of Brene Brown as leaders in our professional and personal lives.  This course is an application, not necessarily answers. We want this to be a dedicated time each week to empower true belonging.  Let's get really really.. this is hard and we need each other to live and lead the change the world needs.

This 7-week book discussion group (7:00 pm - 8:00pm MST on Thursday nights) will meet the following weeks and break down the application of principles and practices each week.

1/4 - Overview of Braving The Wilderness

Setting Your Intention for the 7 weeks

Chapter 1 - Everywhere & Nowhere

1/11 - Chapter 2 - The Quest For True Belonging

1/18- Chapter 3 - High Lonesome: A Spiritual Crisis

1/25 - Chapter 4 - People Are Hard To Hate Close Up.  Move In.

2/1 - Chapter 5 - Speak Truth To Bull Shit. Be Civil

2/8 - Chapter 6 - Hold Hands. with Strangers

2/15 - Strong Back. Soft Front. Wild Heart

With each book discussion group, we will open with a powerful affirmative prayer, move to application questions and close with an affirmation to focus our growth in self-belonging in the week ahead.

The cost of this course does not include the book. We invite you to pick up the book at your nearest retailer or online.  Instructions to Zoom link each week will be provided upon paid registration.

Instructions to Zoom link each week will be provided upon paid registration.

At the end of this book discussion we intend participants will:

    • Relate more to the current spiritual crisis backed by data, research, and experience

    • Practice how to more truly belong with the group and in life

    • Formulate 1-2 ideas they can put into action to live belonging

    • Choose how they will live brave in their own lives

We are delighted to share a portion of the proceeds from this course will go to one of Brene Brown's charities of choice.  This charity provides underwear to people in times of need to restore dignity, hope, and humanity when times get tough.
