Event description

Description

Join Boston’s community of PR and communications professionals for a candid conversation on the need for diversity and inclusivity in advertising, media, and communications.

A panel of industry experts and leaders of color will discuss the impact a lack of diverse perspectives can have on a business’s brand and the companies they see who are engaging multicultural audiences thoughtfully.

The event is presented by three of Boston’s leading communications agencies – Weber Shandwick Worldwide, Denterlein, and Kelley Chunn & Associates – with the support of the Boston Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America.

Robin Washington, Boston Business Journal

Robin Washington grew up in a Chicago family of black and Jewish civil rights activists. Participating in sit-ins and protests when he was three years old, today he recalls those events fondly as “family outings” — though history records them as dangerous and nation-changing.

The winner of many prestigious journalism awards, Washington has appeared on MSNBC, Fox News, ABC News, CNN, National Public Radio and the BBC. From 2004-14, he was editorial page editor, news director, and then editor of Minnesota’s Duluth News Tribune. Previously, he was a columnist for the Boston Herald, for which he covered the Catholic Church sexual abuse scandal. His columns have also appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, Minneapolis StarTribune, Chicago Sun-Times, the Baltimore Sun, San Jose Mercury-News and many other newspapers. He is currently a research scholar for the Institute for Jewish and Community Research.

Geri Denterlein, Denterlein

Geri Denterlein’s life work has been at the intersection of business, government and journalism. As the CEO and founder of the strategic communications firm Denterlein, Geri is a trusted advisor to some of the region’s most respected brands.

She leverages her 30-year career in journalism and public affairs to help corporate and nonprofit organizations promote and protect their reputations. In board rooms, the political arena and the local community, Geri is known as a champion for women. As an active volunteer leader for several of Boston’s nonprofit organizations, and as CEO of Denterlein, Geri has advocated for equality by helping many women find their voice, and communicate effectively for change.

Through her various board positions, including MassINC, A Better City, the Boston Chamber of Commerce, American Red Cross of Massachusetts and the Massachusetts Women's Forum, Geri has consistently encouraged leading organizations to consider and uphold women’s equality. And, as a founding member of the American Red Cross Tiffany Circle, a society of women leaders and philanthropists, Geri has helped grow the council to 60 chapters in the US and additional groups around the world.
