Brave & Tender Club: Sensitive Humans Connect (Fall 2020)
Event Information
About this Event
Brave & Tender Club is back for its fall season!
Brave & Tender Club is a monthly gathering space for sensitive humans to connect, to learn together, to grow our capacity to thrive, and to celebrate our soulful brand of bravery.
Our theme this season is Different on the Inside: Exploring Ways to Thrive as a Neurodivergent Human. I believe we must contextualize these conversations within the social-cultural context of these times. This season will engage conversations that:
- Explore & redefine thriving beyond individual wellbeing & self-care, including space to learn about anti-racism and anti-oppression practices as an essential part of collective liberation and thriving
- Learn to name and embody your gifts in service to your core values
- Grow through sharing our stories; trusting the unexpected events and questions that will guide us over these full next few months
Club meetings will always start with a short grounding and orientation to our community ground rules and values. Introvert friendly.
I am a white woman of Irish/English/Scottish descent. As we directly explore the intersection of race and neurodiversity, these conversations will critically examine white privilege and white body supremacy as we navigate towards embodied self-empathy, community engagement, and collective liberation.
*A quick definition pause!* The term neurodiversity is a culturally emergent term (though not new, it was first coined in 1998 by autistic Australian sociologist Judy Singer) blending the words neurology + diversity. The Neurodiversity Movement takes on a social model of disability, claiming that the systemic barriers and social-cultural stigmas towards people with neurodivergent traits are to be challenged/changed rather than focusing on "curing" people. Sensory sensitivity is a basis of many neurodivergent traits, including sensory processing sensitivity (HSP), ADHD, bipolar, Aspergers, and others who fall along the Autism Spectrum.
Leah's kind and open facilitation style made me feel immediately at ease. It was so comforting to join in with a community of folks and have a safe space to share our stories and learn about ourselves and how we process things and relate to the world.

This event is NOT for people who
Want to be fixed or want a quick fix. Are still comfortable with the status quo. Aren't actively craving deeper meaning, community, or connection in their life.
This event is for people who
Are big-hearted and have felt very broken-hearted. Have a growth mindset or are open to the incredible value of learning over the value of getting it right. Are highly sensitive, empathic, neurodivergent, or feel impacted by the world in ways that are overwhelming. Want to have fun and laugh on the journey! Know the value of investing in self-discovery alongside collective community liberation.
