Description

The Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival, powered by Youth Speaks, is the only festival of its kind. Every year, over 500 young poets, their mentors, and the nation’s leading artists and cultural workers convene in a different U.S. city for 4-5 days of arts education, artistic expression, and civic engagement.

This year, for the first time ever, Brave New Voices is coming to Houston, Texas July 18 - 21, 2018. Young poets from around the world will take center stage for an inspiring week of poetry slams, workshops, performances, and community building. Ending with the Grand Slam Finals on Saturday, July 21, 2018.

If you have been sent here, you have the opportunity to claim FREE tickets to join us for the 2018 Brave New Voices: Opening Ceremonies and Coal + Ice Competition. Taking place at The Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston Campus!

The Brave New Voices International Youth Poetry Slam Festival opening ceremonies features performances and speakers who welcome over 500 poets to the Houston Area for the next 4 days. Apart of the opening ceremonies is our 2018 COAL + ICE Competition. Coal + Ice is a climate change themed competition featuring artists from the Brave New Voices Community. The top 15 poets will perform and a team of five judges will select the five winners. The winners will receive a $1,500 and free trip to San Francisco to perform at the internationally renowned Coal + Ice exhibition and festival in September. Oh yeah. And each winner will receive a $1,500 prize!!

COAL+ICE is an exhibition and festival making its U.S. premiere in San Francisco, at the Fort Mason Center for the Arts and Culture in September of 2018. This installation will also serve as a stage set for performances, lectures, meals, films, delegations, and creative dialogue about climate change innovation and solutions. Asia Society’s Center on U.S.- China Relations in New York is teaming up with Asia Society Northern California, to organize this month-long festival to bring together musicians, artists, actors, business leaders, scientists and politicians to call attention to this urgent issue.
