Celebrate L.A.’s oldest branch library and one of the rare historic Carnegie libraries founded in 1913 that remains a cornerstone of South Los Angeles’ Vermont Square district. This spirited neighborhood event will feature readings from community leaders and a performance by the highly acclaimed Fernando Pullum Youth Orchestra. Led by the beloved music teacher who turned Washington Prep High School into the first music magnet in South Los Angeles, this student orchestra has toured around the world, and now they share their music with local audiences for a special homecoming performance.

About Branching Out
This summer the Library Foundation of Los Angeles in Partnership with the Los Angeles Public Library are presenting 5 different programs in parks adjacent to libraries. We’re bringing in music, speakers, performers, book bikes carrying curated books that reflect the entertainment that afternoon, library sign-up, and local food trucks. We’re hoping that families picnic and enjoy the music and readings in a beautiful public space. These events are meant to bring joy and fun to the community!
