As a mental health provider, regardless of your identified area of speciality, you inevitably work with clients who are struggling with disordered eating patterns. It’s important to know how to approach these issues with your clients.
This seminar will explore the contributing factors and helpful approaches to addressing eating disorders, including how to assist clients in improving body image and their relationships with food. We will discuss risk factors for eating disorders, co-morbid disorders/diagnosis, the neuroscience behind eating disorders, and when to refer for specialized treatment. Participants will experience a critical examination of common societal and cultural messages around weight, appearance, and health and have the opportunity to assess their own attitudes, beliefs and assumptions about these. We will also explore the clinician’s role in advocacy around mental health.
