Brahms Chamber Music Masterworks

Jospeh Kalichstein (piano)
Roberto Diaz (viola)
Ricardo Morales (clarinet)

Johannes Brahms:

Sonata for Clarinet and Piano in F minor, Op. 120 No. 1

Sonata for Clarinet (Viola) and Piano in E flat, Op. 120 No. 2

Piano Sonata No. 2 in F-sharp minor, Op. 2

Pianist extraordinaire Joseph Kalichstein is joined by two instrumental masters – clarinetist Ricardo Morales and violist Roberto Diaz – in a program that spans the compositional output of one of music's greatest Romantics. The Piano Sonata No. 2 (which actually pre-dates the published Sonata No. 1) captures the enormously promising 19-year old working under the influence of Beethoven, Schumann and Liszt. The Op. 120 Sonatas, originally for clarinet and piano but also arranged by the composer for viola and piano, were written 40 years later, and are the mature master's final chamber music statements.
