FAQs

What can I expect from a BOW workshop?

Workshops span a weekend, usually beginning on Friday around noon and ending Sunday after lunch. The weekend is divided into four sessions and you pick the four classes in which you'd like to participate. Class size is kept small so that participants get individual instruction and plenty of time to ask questions. Many of the classes will be outside for most of the 3-1/2 hour class period. Some classes, such as the firearm safety and canine first aid class, are held indoors only. You will receive a list of "how to come prepared for class" prior to the workshop.

Do I need experience to participate?

Beginners are both welcome and encouraged to participate! No prior experience is needed.

Where will I sleep?

Treehaven provides dorm-style lodging with three or four persons to a room. The recently remodeled rooms have bunk beds and private bathrooms. If you choose to stay off-campus, we'll send you a list of area hotels.

What if I snore?

If you snore, you are among the 40-50% of BOW participants who snore too. We recommend that light sleepers bring ear plugs. Try not to be self-conscious if you are a person who snores – most participants will be tired after a fun day of activity and will sleep right through.

Will I get all my favorite classes?

Registrations are processed on a first come, first serve basis. Every attempt is made to register you for your first choice classes, but sometimes they become full and we'll have to enroll you in your second or third choices. The registration brochure will provide clear instructions on how to list your top picks.

What am I required to bring?

When you register for the workshop a suggested packing list is made available to you. Mainly, you'll need to bring clothing and footwear appropriate for outdoor activities in winter. You'll also want casual clothes for the indoor classes and evening programs, pajamas, extra pair of shoes, and extra socks. Treehaven provides linens, towels, pillows and a wool blanket. We provide all the recreational and safety equipment necessary to participate in the classes.

Can men join in on the fun?

BOW is an equal opportunity program. Men who have not had the opportunity to learn these activities elsewhere may enroll as participants. In the past 25 years, there have been a handful of respectful men who have participated in the workshops. We also have a 50/50 ratio of female and male instructors
For more info call 715-346-4681 or email Peggy Farrell, pfarrell@uwsp.edu

What's the refund policy?

A $150 processing fee will be assessed to all cancelled registrations. Registrants who do not attend and do not cancel by Friday, January 27, 2017 will be assessed the full program fee. You may send a substitute.
