BritVic Theatre, LVS, Ascot
October 28 – 30, 2016
From the creators of Les Misérables and Miss Saigon: THE PIRATE QUEEN. A sweeping tale of love, honour and pride
This outstanding musical is based on a true story about an Irish girl who became a Pirate Queen and attempted to liberate Ireland from the rule of the English and Queen Elizabeth I.
This new musical combines classic storytelling and a sweeping score, with the powerful, vibrant traditions of Irish dance and song, to create a modern musical event that is a thrilling adventure, a timeless romance and an historic epic.
Based on the real-life story of Grace O’Malley, The Pirate Queen tells of a compelling, inspirational woman; a heroine who led an extraordinary life as a pirate, chieftain and mother in 16th Century Ireland. Grace was a fiery, defiant figure with incredible resilience. She was able to unite the feuding clans of Ireland against Elizabeth’s attempt to conquer Ireland, which ultimately brought her to a tense face to face meeting with the Queen of England.
This highly romanticised telling of her life was a collaboration between Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg and the producers of the worldwide phenomenon Riverdance.
Schönberg and Boublil have created some of the world’s biggest shows including: Les Misérables (the longest-running musical in the world) and Miss Saigon (recently seen in London).
It’s ‘Les Mis’ meets ‘Riverdance,’ with signature Boublil/Schönberg sounds, combined with some great new Celtic elements and an occasional modern edge.
The show features pirates, a ship, Irish dancing, Elizabethan costumes, sword fighting, battles and awesome haunting Irish 'Les Mis' style music.
This show is absolutely epic: musically, visually and emotionally!
A must see for Les Mis fans.
THE PIRATE QUEEN is Ocean Youth’s 16th production adding to the list of dynamic and entertaining productions including LOSERVILLE, SWEENEY TODD, WEST SIDE STORY and of course LES MISÉRABLES.
