Want to learn more about the scientists, inventors, and entrepreneurs who made Boston one of the most innovative cities in the world? Join us for a special "2023 season kickoff" tour of Boston's new Innovation Trail.
We'll cover the invention of the telephone...surgical anesthesia...the very first bridge between Boston and Kendall Square...how Google came to Cambridge...the genomics revolution...Polaroid, the Stillson wrench, and a whole lot more.
This tour will include a special visit to the Verizon Museum of Innovation in Communications, which is not regularly open to the public. This museum includes a recreation of Alexander Graham-Bell's laboratory, supervised by Thomas Watson; many early telephones; the first telephone switchboard; and other artifacts. (See photos below.)
Your hosts are Daniel Berger-Jones, Founder of Cambridge Historical Tours, and Scott Kirsner, Innovation Economy columnist for the Boston Globe.
We'll gather at the Verizon Museum starting at 1:00 PM, with time to see the exhibits there and meet your guides and the rest of the group. We'll leave the Museum at 1:30 PM. It's a walking tour, so come in comfortable clothes and shoes. We'll wrap up not far from the Kendall Square T Stop... but also close enough to Toscanini's that if you're in need of a scoop, a splinter group may head there at the end.
We'd love to have you join us! And if you can't make this date, regular Fri/Sat/Sun tours of The Innovation Trail begin on May 20th, 2023!
RE Benefactor Tickets: These include a limited edition Innovation Trail water bottle, pictured below.
(We'll reschedule in the event of pouring rain, but otherwise will run the tour on May 13th. Once you buy a ticket, there are no refunds — sorry. But you may transfer it to another person.)
