Event description

"I really believe there are things that nobody would see if I did not photograph them." Diane Arbus Join us this Sunday to slow down and see more creatively.

This is a great class if you have been wanting to go off Auto and learn to use aperture priority to have more creative control over you depth of field. We will focus on creative composition skills which can then be applied to any type of photos you take in the future. We don't have to go out in the cold to keep working on our photo skills. You are invited inside the Boston Center for the Arts for this unique class.

You will be shooting in my artist studio at the Boston Center for the Arts. Not open to the public so you have exclusive access for the class. I have set up several still life creative challenge stations around the space just for you.

During this class I am combining my two favorite topics in one special photo opportunity: Mindfulness and Macro Photography.Get ready to go slow, see deeply and experience a shift in how you perceive the beauty of life. This makes a great contrast to the hectic pace of the season. Put the breaks on for 3 hours and relax.

In this image I used a shallow depth of field F 5.6 to blur the background and bring attention to just a few of the springs. Always select one area of the image to focus our attention and use depth of field to add interest. I will demonstrate how to do this during class.

About your instructor: Suzanne Merritt is a master level instructor with a studio at the Boston Center for the Arts. She has led workshops on beauty, photography, and creativity in Asia, Europe and the United States for the past 20 years. She was the founder of the Polaroid Creativity Lab and in 2016 opened The Curious Soul Photo School in Boston MA. website: curioussoulphotos.com see more of photography by Suzanne and subscribe to her blog for inspiring tips.

The great thing about macro and close up photography is, anything can become an interesting subject if you isolate out the details and take a pin sharp image. You will learn how to use different focus modes during class so you have more creative control.

Macro by former participant in the art studio.

If you have a macro lens, this is the perfect time to break it out and really learn how to use it to full advantage. If you don't have a macro lens fear not! You can use the close up/flower setting on your camera.

Before you can really connect, you need to shift into a more contemplative mindset. I will guide you through some simple mindfulness exercises you can use anytime any where to help you slow down and be more present. These simple techniques will immediately open your eyes to more subtle qualities of color, light, texture and shape that usually go unnoticed.

What you will learn during this workshop:

• What camera settings are best for macro and close up photography

• How to create the Bokeh effect and blur the background

• How to make sure your subject is in sharp focus and properly exposed

• How to use creative composition for added impact

Beautiful texture and composition.

You will also receive my customized lesson cards summarizing the content of the class and assignments so you can practice again on your own after the workshop. And I will provide individual guidance and feedback both during and after the class.

I am limiting this class to 10 participants so please RSVP now if you would like a space. I am really looking forward to offering this workshop.

Once you signup you will receive a more detailed email from me about what to bring, what to wear, and how to prepare.
