Boston Fasting5k 2017
Event Information
Description
Get excited for the Ramadan event of the year! Ten cities and hundreds of athletes will embrace the spirit of the month by fasting, raising charitable funds and building community for good while taking part in our annual 5k event. This year, Fasting5k is working with organizations focused on youth civic engagement to help educate and empower our civic and political leaders of tomorrow. Now more than ever, we must capture the energy of the times and ensure our youth are ready to change the world for the better.
The Boston team will be fundraising for Jetpac and WAGGGS. Jetpac is building the American Muslim civic base. They teach everyone from high school students to young professionals to empty-nesters how to organize on the local level. Through organizing, our trainees learn to apply the Muslim community’s numbers, votes, and dollars towards social justice and service causes. Through this organizing work, trainees also learn all the skills you’ll need to one day run for office.
The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) is a global movement and the largest organization for girls and young women in the world dedicated to supporting them to develop their full potential as leaders and active citizens of the world with 10 million members across 146 countries. Fasting 5k will be supporting WAGGG's Voices against Violence, a one-of-a-kind program to improve young people’s knowledge, awareness and attitudes on violence against women. This program helps young people globally develop their civic engagement skills as they take the lead themselves in changing the global conversation on violence against girls and young women. Young women act as advocates and leaders in their communities and through this international program girls, boys, adults, parents and the community alike are engaged in conversations about violence.
Don't miss out! Come meet some great people, have lots of fun and make change together! We look forward to seeing you there.
***Participants are asked to raise a minimum of $250 to benefit our fundraising partner***
