With powerful new methods for realizing and coordinating designs in real time, it has never been easier to efficiently design highly customized projects that have the potential to deliver substantial value to project stakeholders. In response to this new reality in the built environment, owners, designers, underwriters and regulatory entities have started to embrace performance based design as a means for managing a process that has opened up new opportunities, while exposing potential pitfalls where time tested prescriptive approaches are displaced.

Our panelists will discuss how they incorporate process innovation (e.g., adoption of agile, cross-disciplinary teams) and technology development (e.g., prefabrication, virtual and augmented reality) to advance thinking and build better projects. We will also explore keys to setting projects up for success and how to confirm the course during construction using both traditional and non-traditional verification methods.

Best-laid plans can always go astray, both for typical and atypical projects. How disruptive or acrimonious challenges become often depends upon how team members react to issues when they arise. This panel will debate best practices to address how to plan for and react to unexpected problems. They will also discuss how to address issues to get the best finished product and how to protect your firm from liability.
