On Thursday, June 5, Columbia Alumni Association of Boston will host an evening with Professor Jerry McManus on the topic “And you thought last winter was cold ... Ice age climate and how we know about it.” Join us for a lively discussion about long term climate change and the science used to understand it.

In addition to his research and teaching in the Department of Earth & Environmental Sciences, Prof. McManus is a very popular Frontiers of Science professor.

The Columbia Alumni Association of Boston Scholarship Fund makes a financial aid scholarship award annually to an undergraduate student from New England. The Club established the Fund in 1983 to benefit undergraduate students from the greater New England region attending Columbia College or the School of Engineering, who demonstrate excellence and leadership in academics, extracurricular activities and character. About the Speaker:

Jerry McManus grew up in New York City and received a B.A, M.A. and Ph.D. (1997) in Geology from Columbia University. As a paleo-oceanographer, his research uses deep-sea sediments to reconstruct past changes in the Earth’s climate and the large-scale ocean circulation, with a special focus on the role that the ocean plays in abrupt climate change. He has spent nearly a year of his life at sea. After ten years at the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, he returned to Columbia in 2008, and is now a Professor in the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences based at Lamont-Doherty Earth Observatory.
