OUR CHEF & THE ANCIENT TRADITION OF AYURVEDA:

Ayurveda (the science of life) originated in India almost 5,000 years ago, and is the longest continuously practiced medical system in the world. It’s based on the principal that everyone has a unique constitution made up of the five elements that comprise all of us: earth, water, fire, air, and space. When that constitution is balanced with food, lifestyle, and herbs, the body is in alignment and can maintain optimum health and happiness.

During the fall season, cold, dry, and windy qualities (known as Vata) are predominant, and can aggravate constitutions causing issues such as insomnia, restlessness, worry, constipation, and dry skin. To bring balance, Ayurveda suggests eating warm, cooked foods and avoiding dry, raw, cold foods that contribute to fall’s inherent qualities.

Some examples of Ayurvedic fall foods are nourishing, hearty soups, cooked or roasted root vegetables (like sweet potatoes, carrots, and beets), warm bread, baked apples, honey, and warm milk with warming spices such as cinnamon or cardamom.
