Event Details

Please Note: Group will be meeting at the beach. Please bring your own chairs or towels as one will not be provided to you. If you would like to bring drinks or snacks for yourself and/or the group it is encouraged as long as it does not distract others from who is speaking. We are all equally important in this forum and deserve equal respect and attention.

I have recently discovered that I have been living with Borderline Personality Disorder, along with a few other conditions. This has been terrifying for me and because of years of isolation I've discovered I have a limited support group and that my family and loved ones can only do so much before it's too much for them to bear. It took some pushing for me to realize the importance of proper diagnosis and continued treatment as adised by a psychiatrist. I hope to be able to discuss some of the obsticles we have met due to this disorder (and realative personality disorders) and offer support, words of inspiration, and knowledge of other resources so we can help each other to help ourselves. Most people who do not understand that we do not chose to be emotionally unstable have a hard time understanding the nature of this disorder. Family members are often pushed away because of misunderstandings, and even those who read the material surrounding what borderline personality disorder is and it's symptoms may still fail to show compassion, leaving us feeling empty and alone and utterly beyond repair or hope. The first step to healing our interpersonal relationships or creating ones to begin with, is to heal ourselves one step at a time, utilizing any and every resource available to us.

I am not a therapist, psychiatrist, or any other type of healthcare professional. I am simply an individual who has the capacity to empathize and sympathize with individuals having similar experience. I want to offer a safe moderated environment in which we may discuss our feelings. It is important to express our thoughts and emotions in an environment we will not be judged in or feel we are crazy or incomprehensible to the other person or even overwhelmed by emotion to the point where we cannot properly articulate what we are experiencing.

All ages are welcome however, this is an adult oriented group. I will not limit conversation as far as topic (as it relates to the disorder) or words that can be used (ex: curse words). I want this to be a time where everyone can express themselves in a manner that is productive and healing to them (this takes many different forms).

Please Note:

- All bodily threats to oneself or others will be taken seriously and handled appropriately, and if need be local authorities will be involved (zero tollerence).

- It is okay to share the nature of your medication if you are struggling with it. It is not okay to explicitly tell others the name and dosage of your medication, as others may be recovering from addiction as well, and it's just not necessary for the group to know. You can still get your experience and feelings across without being that specific.

- Negative talk about someone in the group while we are gathering for group, in group, or disbanding for the day, will be grounds for warning; if it continues I will ask the individual to leave and provide resources on how they may find a group better suited for their needs

- Weapons are not allowed in the group circle (I have knives for tree work I do they will be left in my personal vehicle during group). While I appreciate the fact that some individuals are permitted to conceal carry fire arms and knives are legal, etc... I will ask you to leave them behind for our 1 hour group. Any individual found to be in violation of this rule will be asked to leave immediately for the safety of the group.

- I understand emotional outbursts are going to happen in a group of this nature. That is acceptable. What is not acceptable is directing your emotional outburst at any one individual in the group. If you need to shout at someone let it be me and I will determine where to go from there. I will not have other group members frieghtened in a space that is intended to be safe for everyone.

- Written rules will be typed up and each session a randomly chosen member or volunteer will read them.

- We may also begin to compile a list of healthy coping mechanisms, which we will have a volunteer or randomly picked individual read off before our group meeting to remind us we do have the option to change.
