Event description

Description

The National Park Service's Southwest Border Resource Protection Program and the International Sonoran Desert Alliance invite you to learn, share and workshop ideas on cross-border geotourism. We are committed to providing greater access to protected sites on both sides of the US-Mexico border while connecting their values and stories in ways that support local communities and long-term conservation. Our goal is to better connect people to the stunning natural and cultural sites in Arizona and Sonora, Mexico, while promoting economic and community development through tourism.

Duing the 1.5-day training we will explore topics including tourism trends, building cross-border relationships and leveraging tourism to support conservation and preservation outcomes all while laying the groundwork for a stronger community of practice around geotourism topics. Sessions will be facilitated by: J. Felipe Garcia (Visit Tucson), Benjamin Stuart (Arizona Office of Tourism), Donald Leadbetter (National Park Service-Tourism Office), and Kathleen Andereck and Christine Vogt (Arizona State University). Full agenda available here.

Lodging at the training venue is limited, so book your room ASAP: http://sonorancc.com/ . For federal employees, this venue honors GSA per diems rates and will apply them retroactively to your booking.
