About this Event

Each session is from 6:30-8:30 PM.

Session 1 - February 27: Cow Herd Cost of Production and Winter Feeding.

  • Learn what is costs to maintain a beef cow herd, why that is important, and what practices help control costs and increase profitability.

Session 2 - March 5: Calving Management

  • Delivering live calves is critical for cow herd profitability. Assistance is usually only needed occasionally, but at that time do you know how to assist the cow? This workshop will utilize "Carmel and Butterscotch" to teach best practices for assisting difficult calf deliveries and provide the opportunity to practice. Newborn care will also be discussed.

Session 3 - March 12: Cow Herd Health Management and Cow Management Calendar

  • Learn about general vaccine management, schedules and herd health issues.
  • Learn what needs to happen each month of the year to stay on top of supplies needed, and timing for general herd practices.

Cost for each session is $10 or $25 for all three. You can register through Eventbrite or by calling into Buchanan County Extension Offices at (319) 334-7161 and mailing your check to 2600 Swan Lake Blvd Suite A, Independence, IA 50644. Pre-registration is required as seats are limited.
