BooneDoggle Contra 2017
Event Information
Description
*Registration and information for BooneDoggle 2018 can be found at DancerFly*
The BooneDoggle Contra Dance is an all-day dancing event in the Southern Appalachian Mountains held on Saturday, September 30th. The event includes a Blues Dance on Friday night and Waltzing on Sunday morning - so plan to stay with us Sept. 29th through Oct. 1st. On-site accommodations are available - consider staying through the weekend to experience some of the area's wonderful outdoor attractions (hiking in the Blue Ridge Mountains, Virginia Creeper Trail, Appalachian Trail, numerous waterfalls and swimming holes, and the beautiful Watauga Lake, just to name a few).
The hall will be filled with the music of Playing with Fyre (George Paul & Rob Zisette) and Spinning Wheel (Nic Coker & Karen Gaughan). Callers will be the tallented Terry Doyle and Emily Rush. We are thrilled to have them all!
-
Is 12 hours not enough to satisfy your love of dancing? Arrive early, on Friday evening, for a Blues dance and stay through Sunday morning Waltzes to make it a weekend event! Donations accepted to support both events.
-
Does 12 hours of dancing seem like more than you can do? We have half day pricing options, and the Appalachian Folk School is a great place just to relax and enjoy the mountains.
About the venue: The dance will be hosted at the Appalachian Folk School. The open air dance pavilion is accessed by walking through a historic red barn, and has all of the Appalachian charm that we love about our regular venue, the Apple Barn (if not more!). The hall can accommodate more dancers, has on-site overnight accommodations, and the open-air pavilion offers a cooler dancing environment. As a bonus, the neighbor's cows might come and watch us dance!
Accommodations: For those coming from out of town, or wanting to stay on site, there are a variety of sleeping accommodations available on the beautiful AFS property (private cabins, bunkhouses, barn lofts, camping, etc.). Accommodations are available both Friday and Saturday night. To ensure the accommodation of your choice, be sure to register online. Contact the Appalachian Folk School for info about cabins, or check out other local options for housing!
