The Books With Barbers 1st Anniversary Gala-Ry is an elegant intersection of philanthropy, the arts, education, and support of literacy for African American youth. Wear your black dress (or suit!) for the cause and join us for a glamorous evening of live art, a silent auction, music, and giving back at the beautiful City Art on January 19th, 2017. The Gala showcases the artistic talent of Tariq Mix and premier art created by the children of Columbia under the direction of art educator Michelle Bridges. The Gala is further marked by its multicultural inclusivity and sincere celebration of the diverse beauty of the Columbia community. During this time we will honor the dedicated barbershop owners who have devoted themselves to growing young readers through the Books With Barbers program. Their commitment to their community will be acknowledged and celebrated.
Children are the primary focus of the Books With Barbers- Gala-Ry, with proceeds going to support the Books With Barbers literacy program. BWB provides complete literacy stations to youth across the nation as an effort to close the literacy gap that currently resides in the African American community. By providing culturally relevant and diverse books we hope to diminish challenging circumstances children may face in their educational career and hope to encourage them to seek higher education. Books With Barbers has grown beyond our wildest imaginings, and we would like to express our deepest gratitude for the growing support of this community organization.
