Event description

Description

Hatch Editorial Services and the folks at Coniferous Café are pleased to bring you "Books, Blogs, and Zines: A Crash Course in Activist Writing."

Professional editor Jessica Hatch will draw from historical and current examples of political writing, like the Riot Grrl movement, B*tch Media, and Melville House, as well as the successes of her own clients (trans advocate Ella Marques; LGBTQ imprint Heartsome Publishing), to bring each lesson to life.

Sip coffee, wine, or your Coniferous Café drink of choice as this four-week seminar gives you the chops to draft, edit, and promote an issues-based book of your own. Here's what you can expect each week!

  • August 5 - Personal Identity and the Power of Words. Find the story you were born to tell, then learn some dynamic research and prewriting strategies to help you tell that story.

  • August 12 - Building a Productive Daily Writing Practice. Warm up your creative mind with some in-class exercises, and get tips for a writing practice you can be proud of.

  • August 19 - Editing Strategies to Make Your Work Shine. Sometimes, it's hard to see the forest for the trees -- especially if it's a forest you're really passionate about, if you know what we mean. This lesson is all about opening up that inner editing eye, taking your completed manuscript from rough draft to polished prose.

  • August 26 - I've Written a Book... Now What? Writing a good blog post or manifesto isn't like Field of Dreams. If you build it, they may not come. Jessica will discuss promotional tactics every writer should know, as well as how to deploy them successfully.

Though attendees can get plenty out of one session, each class builds into the next one. Wanna attend all four? Please do -- and check out our special bundle pricing, just for you!
