Stephen Hornsby discusses “Picturing America: The Golden Age of Pictorial Maps” (Univ. of Chicago Press, 2017).

Books & Beyond is an author discussion series sponsored by the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress. Authors from across the country discuss their books and the writing life, and talk about how they have used the resources of the Library of Congress in their work.

Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the Center for the Book in the Library of Congress, which comprises the Young Readers Center as well as the Poetry and Literature Center, promotes books and libraries, literacy and reading, and poetry and literature knowing that they are the best tools for creating and sustaining informed and engaged societies.

Registration is not a guarantee of admission. Seating is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Books will be available for purchase at a discount and there will be a book signing following the presentation.

This event will be recorded for presentation as a webcast on the Library of Congress website. There will be a 10 minute Q&A following the presentation. If you participate in the Q&A you may be included in the recorded webcast.

What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?

The best way to arrive is by public transportation. The closest Metro stations are Capitol South (Blue/Orange/Silver Line—a two block walk) or Union Station (Red Line—a half-mile walk). Limited metered and two-hour zoned parking is available in the surrounding neighborhoods. Public parking garages are also available, with the largest being at Union Station. What can/can't I bring to the event?

All visitors must pass through airport-like security to enter the Library. Please allow for additional time and double-check to make sure you've removed ALL metallic and electronic items from your person. These items include some articles that may surprise you, like belt buckles and bracelets; and items that are easily forgotten like keys and cell phones.
