Event description

This free online event gives you the opportunity to reserve your copy of Give the Best that You Have: My Photographs and Memories of a Rural Black School, a 141-page hardcover book that features more than 100 black-and-white photos taken by the author in the early 1960s. Your reservation puts you at the front of the line to purchase one of the first copies from the press. The author, the late Eleanor M. Simmons, taught home economics and science at Pine Forest Community School for eight years (1959-67). This virtual book release commemorates the fifty-year anniversary of the final graduating class from PFCS. The memoir includes her first-person reflections on life at the school within the context of her insight on how to become an effective educator. Her narrative is accompanied by vintage images that shed light on daily life at the school among the close knit PFCS family. The hardcover edition will go on sale on, December 2, 2018, for $24.99. Dr. Joanne Mitchell Martin, president and founder of the National Great Blacks in Wax Museum in Baltimore, wrote the book's foreword. Read a preview of the book here:
