The "Book It!" 5K Race was founded with hopes of ending cyclic patterns of poverty in rural corners of the world. Specifically, the race's profits will benefit the Florida State University College of Medicine and the strides they have taken in rural Nicaragua to meet the health needs of the impoverished people. While the teams of medical students and faculty have greatly improved the overall health of the people of rural Nicaragua during their quarterly service trips, more can still be done to ensure a bright future for these people. The money raised from "Book It!" will go directly toward sending Spanish children's books to the children of Los Cedros and surrounding villages, in hopes of promoting education. The 4th Annual race will begin with check-in at the Integration Statue on FSU's campus at 8 am on Sunday, April 2nd, 2017. The race begins at 9 am, and the 5K will go through campus and end at the Integration Statue, where there will be a celebratory reception. Tickets can be sold online for $15. Pre-Registeration ends at noon on March 20th. If you register by this date, you are guaranteed a free T-shirt. Online registeration will still be open until 11:30 pm on April 1st and tickets will be sold at the gate but a shirt is not guaranteed. Registration fee includes refreshments. Prizes will be awarded to First and Second places for men and women. Runners who are below 18 years old should have an adult supervisor present during the race.
