Thank you for joining the book discussion of Spiritual Gems of Islam: Insights and Practices from the Qur’an, Hadith, Rumi and Muslim Teaching Stories to Enlighten the Heart and Mind by Imam Jamal Rahman. We will be meeting via Zoom on Saturdays (June 5, 12, 19, 26) at 10 a.m. central time. An hour before the sessions begin, we will send you an invitation to join the Zoom event. To prepare for the book discussion we suggest the following: 1. You will need to obtain a copy of the book. You may want to see if it is available at your local book store or library. You can order through Amazon books. If you want to buy a copy online, the Kansas City Public Library recommends using the website Bookshop.com. Part of the proceeds of Bookshop.com goes back to local independent bookstores. You might want to try that service. If you need help purchasing the book, please contact the Renewal Center (info@pbrenewalcenter.og). 2. Each chapter begins with one or two “gems.” We recommend reading each gem meditatively; read it and sit with the gem for a while before plunging into the text. We also recommend not trying to digest more than a couple of gems at one sitting. 3. Here’s the basic outline of our meetings. Week One: Introduction and Gems 1-7, page ix – 50. Week Two: Gems 8-16, p 51 – 103. Week Three: Gem 17-25, p 107 – 156. Week Four: Gem 26-33, p 157 – 209 4. We will be using Zoom for these discussions. If you don’t have the Zoom app on your computer or your smartphone, please download and install the app. Get it at https://zoom.us/ IMPORTANT: If you’ve never used Zoom and want to practice it before the session begins, please contact Dennis Coday at the Renewal Center, and he will set up a practice session for those interested.
