Event description
Join Humble TX Stand Up in exploring how Michelle Obama lives a life that quietly defies racism.

About this Event

Join your Humble, Texas neighbors to discuss the systemic racism Michelle Obama regularly fought and her efforts to make America more equitable and inclusive.

Since her husband’s election as the 44th president of the United States, Michelle Obama has emerged as one of the most iconic and compelling women of our era. As First Lady of the United States of America--the first African American to serve in that role--she helped create the most welcoming and inclusive White House in history, while also establishing herself as a powerful advocate for women and girls in the U.S. and around the world, dramatically changing the ways that families pursue healthier and more active lives, and standing with her husband as he led America through some of its most harrowing moments. Warm, wise, and revelatory, Becoming is the deeply personal reckoning of a woman of soul and substance who has steadily defied expectations--and whose story inspires us to do the same.

Zoom link will be sent to registered participants. Please consider purchasing your book from a black-owned bookstore (Town&Country and Lithub have store lists.) To prep for discussion, please consider and have in mind one new thing you learned, one question inspired by the book, and solutions for how we can stand against racism in our own lives.

NOTE: This Zoom event is provided for our Humble, Texas neighbors and those living nearby. If you live far from Humble, we encourage you to find or start a discussion group in your own area.
