In small groups, children will meet to share ideas and opinions about texts read aloud to them. Please note that the children themselves will not be asked to read. Instead, they will listen to and then discuss excerpts from stories, poems, and non-fiction texts. They will take a close look at characters, setting, themes, text organization and language. Through questions and conversation children will better comprehend more subtle parts of the featured texts and deepen their understanding of the works read. Conducted exclusively in Russian, this initiative is designed to help children expand their vocabulary and strengthen Russian expressive skills when discussing various literary topics.
The book clubs are facilitated by PARH founding director, Marina Kvitko Cherner.
Basic conversational Russian is required.
The fall series includes three sessions on the following dates: Nov. 6th, Dec. 4th. Each meeting is limited to 5 children.
