Event description
2-day course for practitioners, who are looking to be put on a fast track to working with runners across the injury to performance spectrum.

About this Event

Course Description: Running is a practical mode of exercise considering its wealth of documented health benefits and minimal barriers to entry. Running, however, is associated with a high incidence of lower extremity injury with studies highlighting that upwards of eighty percent of runners are likely to sustain an injury over the course of a given year. Clinicians working in an outpatient clinical setting would therefore be well served to refine their communication as well as their clinical skills and reasoning to foster improved outcomes in working with runners not only to migrate them out of the medical system, but to also position them for performance and/or reaching a personal best.

This course is designed to help clinicians answer every runner’s most pressing question, “When can I run?” in addition to positioning runners to set a PR or reach a personal best. An emphasis will be placed on communication strategies, running specific functional assessments, exercise prescription/program design, and running gait analysis as it relates to addressing pain and dysfunction as well as performance. Bone stress injuries and tendon related disorders will be a primary focus of the course considering that runners often present with such pathology, which poses a unique set of challenges for practitioners.

Structure: an eclectic course that draws on the best and most current research related to pain, exercise, biomechanics, resistance training, assessment, running gait analysis/retraining and program design. The course is designed to afford an intimate learning environment while affording ample time for questions, interaction, and reflective learning. The course is open to PTs, PTAs, MDs, DCs, ATCs, and certified personal trainers.
