Event description

Description

This family-friendly show uses elements of music and dance to bring the holiday spirit to life. The royal citizens of Culture Kingdom, who once celebrated Kwanzaa every day, are devastated when a terrible plague called “The Recession” hits their kingdom.

The loss of the things they once held dear causes them to abandon their principles of Unity, Self-Determination, Collective Work and Responsibility, Cooperative Economics, Purpose, Creativity, and Faith. Soon after the recession, two scholars, Maulana and Karenga, return home from a study-abroad trip in Africa. Surprised by the selfishness of their once community-minded neighbors, they seek the counsel of their queen: the omniscient, royal, superhero Culture Queen. With help from the audience, she encourages the citizens to rekindle their Kwanzaa spirit. With just a pot, water and a magical bone, Maulana and Karenga devise a clever plan to involve the citizens in cooking a traditional bone soup. Soon, the citizens begin working together to return their kingdom to its Kwanzaa tradition of family, culture and community.

This event features a LIVE HOLIDAY MARKET with over 20 vendors.
