BodyWise: Beginning Zumba Dance

A Community Class for Fun and Personal Growth

Class Description:

Zumba is a type of fitness training that incorporates Latin dance steps with elements of martial arts and hip-hop using high energy international, rhythmic music. It is usually done with a group of like-minded people who want to feel good in their bodies.

Though this is a pretty accurate definition of Zumba Fitness Classes, the BodyWise Zumba Classes that Noeticus Counseling Center and Training Institute is offering in collaboration with Dancing the Soul: A Center for Creative Movement and Stillness are much more focused on coming together as a community to explore the power of personal and group embodiment.

Our weekly, drop-in, BodyWise Beginning Zumba Dance Classes are open to any of our clients (past or present), staff, colleagues, and community members who are interested in the power of rhythm, synchrony, and community movement as a vehicle for creative expression and personal growth.

No previous experience with Zumba is necessary nor is it necessary to bring a dance partner. The class is open to all men and women (and anyone in between) in the community who are interested in being guided through some fun Zumba dance routines in a safe, structured, and supported way. Come just one, or join us every Thursday for our BodyWise: Beginning Zumba Dance Classes. Just wear comfortable clothing that is easy to move in and be ready to have some fun together.

Class Structure:

Each class is an hour in length and generally follows this basic structure:

  1. Embodied Warm-Up
  2. Engaging Rhythmic Exploration
  3. Easy Cool-Down and Integration

Class participants are encouraged to move at their own level of comfort and ability. Variations and modifications to the Zumba routines will be happily provided as needed to participants who request them.

Class Instructor:

Sergio Botia

Sergio Botia has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Contemplative Psychology from Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado and has been affiliated with Noeticus Counseling Center and Training Institute since 2009. He is a Certified Zumba Instructor and uses a friendly and supportive style to teach this fun and exhilarating movement class. Sergio grew up in Colombia and has a special passion for rhythm and dance that he loves to share with other people especially those who may be timid about expressing themselves through their bodies.
