This class is all about how you feel about your appearance (body image), which includes how you feel about any part of your body, your face or your general appearance. It is very difficult to be positive about your appearance with today's society and this can can a negative affect on how you feel about yourself and how you interact with others e.g. you may feel like you want to hide yourself under clothes or makeup or feel you are only acceptable if you look a certain way. Or you may feel you are trying to look a certain way because you feel then you will be happy and have the life you want e.g. when I am a size X or weight X stones, then I will be happy.
This course aims to help you understand where your body image comes from; we will look at the influence of your experiences, our society and the media. We will also look at ways to change and improve your perception of your appearance and have a more balanced and healthy outlook. You will leave with a deeper understanding of these issues and skills to make positive changes in this aspect of your life.
This course will use various psychological approaches (e.g. Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and Mindfulness)
This course is suitable for those age 16 and over.
No one will be put under pressure to talk or participate at any of Thrive's courses.
