Introducing our loved dance class in a series format! 8 weekly classes, starting Tuesday January 10 going through February 28th.
Body Home is a fat-positive dance class for folks who want to dance in a supportive community. People of all sizes are welcome, though we want to keep it a fat-centric space.
* Dance styles taught are primarily jazz and contemporary. We'll dance to music from many genres over the weeks.
* Our focus will be on joyful movement, connecting with our bodies, honoring our unique abilities and challenges with self-compassion, and creative expression. All dancers are encouraged to find and ask for adaptations so that movement feels safe, comfortable and honoring of our bodies. We may find ourselves getting stronger, improving balance, feeling more connected to our bodies, and feeling more free and creative with our movement. We might get sweaty and work hard, but we barely notice it because of how much fun we are having!
* This is a fat-positive space. Absolutely no diet or weight loss talk or comments on other people’s bodies will be tolerated. We recognize that each of us has our own physical challenges and abilities, and we agree to keep a neutral approach and refrain from negative criticism of our bodies to keep this a welcoming space for all.
* In this space we are all commiting to working towards recognize our own priveleges, implicit biases, and trying to respect and honor those folks of oppressed groups. I aim to create a supportive and safe environment for BIPOC, folks of all genders, and folks of varying abilities (accessibility info below).
How accesible is the space?
There are 3 steps up to get inside the building, with no handrail. Once inside no further steps. Bathrooms are gender neutral (shared). Dressing rooms are available with Mens and Womens designations, and use will overlap with other classes. Can not gaurantee scent free, but ask no one to wear scents.
Do I have to be fat to join?
No! This space is created with a focus on creating a safe and joyful space for fat folks. We like to call it fat-centric. But folks of any size are welcome to join us.
What do I wear?
Whatever is comfortable to move in. Most people wear leggings, yoga pants or shorts with a T-shirt. For your feet there are many options: Barefoot, socks, very clean sneakers (ideally not too much traction), or any dance shoes. Don't feel like you need to run out and buy anything special for this class.
Is the price flexible?
Yes. There is an early bird discount. There is also a discount code to get 25% off. Please use this if the cost feels prohibitive. Think of it as a way to keep the sliding scale intact while adapting to technology. Code is RIPE.
