Event description
An exploration of methods to Decolonize our Minds from our Bodies, so that we can Repair the Harm of Colonization on Social Bodies

About this Event

"If we pay attention to the relationship between our mind and body, we will see that most of the time, our mind controls, exploits and uses our body to meet its ego needs. . . This is the way our mind colonises the body.

And this is how powerful social actors (intellectual authority) colonise the free agency and wisdom of the collectives (social body)." -- Manish Srivastava, SPT Senior Practitioner

This Body Decolonization Practice Group is a laboratory that investigates the application of cutting edge somatic practices in the context of racial equity. Arawana Hayashi & Otto Scharmer's Social Presencing Theater (SPT) is the organizing discipline, further informed by a range of somatic practices and neurological information. The goal is to gain awareness of our bodies' natural inclination toward health and wholeness, as well as awareness of their impact on others - and to begin to describe and disseminate practices that work to do this.

SPT is an embodied mindfulness practice that:

  • Allows you to re-member how to listen to your body, and to other bodies in the surrounding Social Field.
  • Builds stamina for us to sense current reality in our context, together.
  • Seeks the perspectives of Marginalized People, the Earth, and our Highest Future Potential.
  • Makes intuitive wisdom visible and palpable so that it becomes available.

Somatics is a group of embodied practices that:

  • Provides techniques to ground yourself and integrate your brain and nervous system connections to "metabolize" and move through traumas.
  • Builds and strengthens capacity to remain productively engaged across racial and cultural differences.

How do these disciplines dialogue with each other? Join us to find out!

Rie Algeo Gilsdorf is a Racial Equity Consultant and Coach and Social Presencing Theater Advanced Practitioner at Embody Equity, www.EmbodyEquity.com
