The graceful movement of Ballet, one of the oldest formal dances performed in Europe, makes it an ideal subject for photography. Join our workshop and capture images of breathtaking beauty!
While dance is an art of movement through time, photography is the art of stopping time. We will concentrate on capturing the decisive moment of each gesture and freeze it with professional strobe lighting.
This is a challenge of the highest order – the images must have strong dynamics and precision in order to create the illusion of human beings effortlessly floating in mid-air. It takes vision, coordination, anticipation, and perfect timing. Strobe lights will solve the technical problems of freezing high-speed movement, as well as provide the visual drama inherent in the performance.
This workshop will take place at a dance studio. Samy’s Photo School, led by instructor George Simian, will provide the dancers, strobe lights, background and instruction in capturing peak moments. Bring your camera, backup battery, memory cards, medium focal length lens (or zoom), a strong interest in dance and movement and comfort in following fast movement with your camera, locking focus, and responding to the peak moment of the action!
A week after the workshop we will post a group web page featuring everyone’s best work, as well as reward the dancers with your images.
