The District had 77 finalists from all secondary schools in SAUSD in the categories of Poetry, Prose and Media. The following media pieces are the first, second, and third place winners from the contest that took place on February 6th at Santa Ana High School’s Little Theater.
--- Borders by Diego Solorio, Micaela Alvarado, Diego Gonzalez, and Sonia Martinez
--- Fences
With the central conflict of the story regarding an African American family having to abandon their dreams due to a racist society, the entire play revolves around achieving far-out possibilities: one of the most chilling moments is when the protagonist, Troy, manages to become the first African American Garbage Truck Driver in the city. In order to prevent any racism in our movie trailer, we decided to make it about Mexican Americans (all contributors are Mexican) and name it Borders in reference to the highly controversial Mexican-American border, which is commonly used as a symbol of our discrimination.

--- Suffragette by Danny Barrera.

Saintly Film
**** The program at Santa Ana high school is an arts-integrated English course in which students begin with foundational film skills writing and producing narrative short films. In their second year, they use their understanding of filmmaking to produce web series and comprehend the connection to audience and streaming. But in their 3rd and 4th year, the use of visual storytelling will guide students in documentary filmmaking and an experimental thesis. The program goal is to provide students the space to define themselves through the arts and transform themselves and their surroundings through their creativity and their process.
--- Documentaries
** The documentaries produced to chronicle the lives of students and their observations. They use their surroundings to create and to develop a world beyond themselves. Some of these documentaries relay the message of belonging, and hope, while others find a space of home and creativity.
