Event description

Description

By 2044 the United States will be a multiethnic majority country, and by 2020 â…“ of the global workforce will be Millennials, individuals who have grown up in a society with ready access to multicultural content almost since birth via the internet. These stats stand in stark contrast to the fact that nonprofit boards are 78.6 percent white, 7.5 percent African American, 4.2 percent Latino American, and 2.6 percent Asian American.

Nonprofit institutions have a unique opportunity to reflect the audiences of the future and gain a multitude of strategic advantages in the face of change by including racial equity in their board development strategies. Board Development for Racial Equity will help participants understand the functions of a board of directors as they relate to racial equity, identify the implicit biases that result in a majority white board, and refine board recruitment strategies that ensure POC board membership and retention. This workshop is ideal for board members, especially board chairs and nominating committee members, as well as Executive Directors, and senior development leaders.

Key Takeaways:

  • Expectations of your board of directors regarding vision and leadership.
  • Specific reasons that POC are either not on the board or not staying on the board.
  • Where you can find POC for board membership.
  • Changes to policies and procedures, especially fundraising Strategies, that can make the difference in achieving racial equity on your board

This workshop will be presented by Kat Bloomfield, CEO of Arts Business Collaborative

Area of Excellence: Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
