Event description

Please Read the Event Description - especially the “Registration” & “Meeting Point” sections below! : )

Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket. The Museum Day ticket provides free admission for two people on Saturday, September 21, 2019 only - a $20.00 savings.

Baltimore History & Culture, a non-profit community organization, has participated in Museum Day for the past several years, helping to promote both the Museum Day program itself as well as the participating museums. The B&O Railroad Museum is one our personal favorites and we’re happy to help bring people in for a FREE visit – regular adult admission is $20 per person.

The B&O Railroad Museum Web Site:

There are over 30 museums participating in the Smithsonian Museum Day, including several in Baltimore including:

Baltimore Museum of Industry

Irish Railroad Workers Museum

Maryland Historical Society

Phoenix Shot Tower

Reginald F. Lewis Museum

Star-Spangled Banner Flag House Museum

Additional Event Info - Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day Web Site:

Registration: FREE Smithsonian Museum Day admission is for Saturday, September 21, 2019 only. Advance tickets for two people are available to the public via the following link:

Advanced registration is requested so that the museum knows how many people to expect. If you don’t register via the above web link beforehand you may still be admitted the day of the event, but that is at the museum’s discretion, and no guarantee for admission. All are welcome to attend including children and groups.

You are able to attend this event on your own, or with members of the non-profit community organization Baltimore History & Culture. Please note that RSVP’ing for this event through the Baltimore History & Culture web sites (Meetup, Facebook, Eventbrite, etc.) is not a formal event registration/ticket with the Smithsonian or the museum - it merely allows you to receive event updates and visitor suggestions from us via email, social media, etc. To obtain a free Museum Day ticket please also register via the following link: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/museumday/museum-day-2019/

Weather: This event is indoors and will take place rain or shine. If it’s on our calendar, then we’re proceeding as scheduled.

Meeting Point: The B&O Railroad Museum will be open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm - the hours we’ve listed for the event. If you are visiting on your own you are able to attend at any point during those hours.

However, if you would like to visit the museum with members of the non-profit community organization Baltimore History & Culture, then we’ll be arriving at 2:00 pm (not 10:00 am). To join us please meet “outside” of the museum’s main entrance. We’ll have our traditional group icebreaker introductions to get to know each other and then we’ll proceed into the museum together as a group. This is not a guided tour per se, but there may be museum staff members on hand. We plan on staying until the closing at 4:00 pm but you can depart before then is desired.

Meet People: Throughout the day look for people wearing our “Baltimore History & Culture” stickers, which we'll hand so that you will know who is in our group. : )

Post Event: Optional dinner/drinks/discussion/socializing/etc. afterwards at a TBD location nearby.

Additional Questions: Anything that can’t be answered by the above event description, Google, or common sense please let us know.

This program is presented by the non-profit community organization Baltimore History & Culture: “bringing people together to experience the history and culture of Baltimore.”
