Event description

Description

Bluestocking Teas gather people together over afternoon tea to discuss and debate a topic of conversation led by an inspiring speaker. It's a chance to spend a couple of hours learning and engaging, with the added bonus of delicious cake! We are thrilled to have Dr. Helen Pankhurst as guest speaker at the inaugural Bluestocking Tea on Sunday 29th April.

Dr Helen Pankhurst is a women's rights activist and senior advisor to CARE International, based in the UK and in Ethiopia. Her work in Ethiopia includes support across sectors, focused on the interests and needs of women and girls. In the UK she is a public speaker and writer on feminist issues.

Helen is the great-granddaughter of Emmeline and granddaughter of Sylvia Pankhurst, leaders of the British suffragette movement. She has been involved in work to keep their legacy alive, including by being involved in the 2015 film Suffragette and in 2018 publishing Deeds Not Words, the Story of Women’s Rights, Then and Now’.

Helen will be talking about her book and kicking off a discussion on women's rights today that we hope will last beyond the end of her talk. A full afternoon tea (finger sandwiches, scones, cakes and lashings of tea of course) will be served to guests afterwards.

If you require a vegetarian afternoon tea, please send an email with your name at bluestockingteas@gmail.com

Dr. Pankhurst's book Deeds Not Words, the Story of Women's Rights, Then and Now will be available to purchase.
