Blueprints for Milwaukee: Building a YP Agenda
Wed, April 26, 2017, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM CDT
Blueprints for Milwaukee is an inclusive platform that connects Milwaukee’s millennials and their ideas to leaders in city government. The program has two components: a public-facing collection of area millennial priorities through a forum-style event and ongoing communication between the leadership of millennial organizations and City of Milwaukee administration to discuss those priorities, their viability, and how they might come to life.
Please join us at City Hall for a night of workshopping with your peers to define next steps to address city challenges. Under the umbrella of talent attraction and retention, an issue of great importance for our city and state, we have pinpointed several focus areas that we believe will bolster Milwaukee’s ability to attract and retain talent. These focus areas include:
- Cultural Competency
- Public Safety
- Arts, Culture, and Public Space (parks, trails, river walk)
- Small Business Ecosystem
At the event, the focus areas will feature a “topic expert” from the city administration who will deliver a short state of affairs for each of the workshop area and help facilitate a productive and solution-oriented conversation.
We ask that you come with an open mind and solutions, rather than lamentations!
Following the civil unrest in the summer of 2016, leaders from millennial based organizations began to gather to find new ways to shift the current power structures in the city of Milwaukee. The focus of this coalition’s work being to ensure a diverse set of voices are included in community-wide issues in the future and that the next generation of leadership communicates and collaborates in a transparent, supportive and inclusive way moving forward. Goals for the Blueprints program include:
Providing a point of unification for Milwaukee’s millennial organizations to gather
Discovering a common set of priorities reflective of the millennial generation
Developing a direct line of communication with established leaders and decision-makers
Increasing social capital to a diverse audience
Sparking civic engagement and increasing knowledge of local government among millennials – both native to Milwaukee and transplants to the region
Furthering the ideas that make Milwaukee a more attractive place for young talent
