Adam was our son, brother, friend, cousin and nephew. He was diagnosed with lymphoma in January 2014 and after extensive treatment, including a stem cell transplant, he died in March of this year. This brief summary of an illness doesn’t do justice to the person he was - kind, generous, sociable, clever, principled and interested in life and people. He faced his illness with courage and positivity, he never complained about being ill or his own bad luck. He accepted that his illness could have happened to anyone so why not him? When Adam heard that his cancer had returned again and that his life chances were slim, the first thing he asked his doctors was whether his notes could be used as data to inform research. He wanted good to come out of all. Whether this can be done or not we still don’t know, but backing scientific research is something we can all do. For this reason our family has decided to raise funds for Bloodwise as we are “inspired by Adam”.
After two successful London-based Poetry and Music fundraisers we've been talking about putting one on in Liverpool for ages and thanks to the lovely Bronwen at 81, Renshaw we now have the perfect venue and location. This promises to be a night to remember :-)
Doors open at 7pm for a 7.30 start. Compered by Poet and Musician and Adam's Uncle, Michael Clift (www.michaelclift.co.uk) we're very pleased to say that poet , musician and Liverpudlian legend Keith Wilson is our headline act. Keith has been described as:
"Sharp-tongued poet, musician, playwright, tv presenter, actor and philosopher, Keith is colloquial, razor sharp and erudite. Lyrically smart, his words are drawn from life's warp and weft and his music straddles an art-rock backdrop somewhere between Zappa’s improvisation and the The Bonzo Dog Band’s post-music hall vibe. He’s funny and morose. Angry and incisive. His live work constantly shifts between stand up and stand out ferocity."
Keith has performed has supported many big names in music such as Paul Weller and Billy Bragg and put out albums of both music and poetry and published books of his verse. He'll be perfomring poetry on the night and we're very much looking forward to it!
Keith will be supported by Rachel the pianist and there will also be sets from two of Adam's very musically gifted friends, Nathan Tierney and Harry Boscoe.
There are toasties and cakes in the food department and teas, coffees and bottled beers on the drinks front. CASH ONLY!
