The craft is in our blood.
The unique blend of citrus-forward hops and actual blood orange balanced by robust caramel malt has catapulted Bloodline Blood Orange Ale to the spotlight.
Now, you have a chance to brew it for yourself. The Flying Dog Stove Toppers are all-grain homebrew kits for advanced home brewers. These recipes and ingredients are straight from our brewhouse and scaled-down to fit your home brewery.
Here’s how the competition works:
- 15 kits will available for competition only; no additional kits will be for sale.
- Each kit costs $60 and includes the yeast, hops, malt, and blood orange peel. Each brewer must obtain their own blood orange juice.
- To maintain an even playing field, all kits will be assembled and available for pick-up at on Saturday, June 6 from 9 to 11 am at Flying Dog Brewery.
- Brewers will then have six weeks to produce the beer.
On Wednesday, July 15 at 6 pm, entrants will bring three bottles (or one growler if beer was kegged) of their entry beer to Jojo's Taphouse in Frederick, Maryland. A panel of Flying Dog brewers and quality analysts will review and rate each entry based on the quality and likeness to Flying Dog’s original Bloodline.
At the conclusion of the event, each competitor will receive a copy of his or her BJCP score sheet and the judges will be available to answer questions and give additional feedback.
Once all the submissions have been rated and ranked, the top three finishers will be announced and the grand prize winner will take home an once-in-a-lifetime Flying Dog homebrewer experience. The day will include a private guided tour and opportunity to fill a custom firkin. Then, the winner and 9 of their friends will be invited back to the brewery when their firkin is scheduled to release in our tasting room.
Three Chances to Enter, Brew, and Win
In addition to our Raging Bitch competition in DC (held in May) and this Bloodline contest, we are holding a Baltimore competition for The Fear Imperial Pumpkin Ale in mid-October.
When all three competitions have commenced, all winners will be invited back to the brewery for a brew day on our 15-barrel pilot system.
