Blockchain Workshops & Lab
Event Information
Description
WORKSHOPS: 2-4PM
WEDNESDAYS - OCT. 9, 16, 23, 30 and NOV. 6
The workshops are 2 hours each and run the course of 5 weeks. The content builds from week to week, so be sure to come to the first workshop and plan to come to all of them if possible.
The exciting concept about blockchain is decentralization, a powerful idea where business transactions can take place without a central authority governing them. The idea has launched a transformative technology that will go far beyond currency and economics. It is anticipated that students from a variety of backgrounds will participate in these workshops which will be the strength as the technology crosses borders and can be used in many innovative ways. It is a shift in thinking and thus multiple perspectives are not just welcomed, but necessary.
These workshops will introduce blockchain and decentralized concepts, uses, projects, technology, and development environments. Each session will have components of interactivity, design thinking and in-class exercises. The goal is to be able to set up a blockchain programming and testing environment and work on group and individual projects using blockchain concepts.
Session 1 - 10/9: What is blockchain, the Third Web and cryptocurrency and why do they matter?
Session 2 - 10/16: How and where is blockchain and decentralized ledger technology being used?
Session 3 - 10/23: Intro to the variety of blockchain development environments and then delve in Ethereum. This is a hands-on session where each attendee uses a computer in the lab to go through the full experience.
Session 4 - 10/30: Covers more complex programming and smart contracts and test blockchain networks.
Session 5 - 11/6: Test your Dapp (decentralized app), create your own currency and trade using the Metamak wallet.
LAB immediately follows weekly workshops.
