Day 1: Introduction to Blockchain Technology and Applications

This workshop will explore the foundations, architecture, and applications of Blockchain technology. You will learn about the decentralized peer-to-peer network, distributed ledger and the trust model that defines Blockchain technology. This workshop will explain components of Blockchain (transaction, block, block header, and chain), its operations (hashing, verification, validation, and consensus model), underlying algorithms, and essentials of trust (hard fork and soft fork).

Instructor: Prof. Ahmed Banafa, Expert on Blockchain, IoT, AI, Faculty, Author, Keynote Speaker.

Prof. Ahmed Banafa has extensive experience in research, operations and management, with focus on Blockchain , IoT, Cybersecurity, and AI. He is a reviewer of and a technical contributor to several technical books. He has served as an instructor at well-known universities and colleges, including Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, California State University-East Bay, San Jose State University, and University of Massachusetts.

He is the recipient of several awards, including Distinguished Tenured Staff Award, Instructor of the Year Award for 4 years in a row, and Certificate of Honor from the City and County of San Francisco. He was named the No. 1 tech voice to follow, technology fortune teller and influencer by LinkedIn in 2018 by LinkedIn. His research is featured in many reputable sites and magazines including Forbes, IEEE and MIT Technology Review. He has been interviewed by ABC, CBS, NBC, BBC, NPR, Fox TV, and Radio stations. He is a member of the MIT Technology Review Global Panel.

He has studied Electrical Engineering at Lehigh University, Cybersecurity at Harvard University, and Digital Transformation at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He is the author of the books “Secure and Smart Internet of Things (IoT) using Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence (AI)”, and “Blockchain Technology and Applications”.

Day 2: Introduction to Blockchain Programming:

Learning Objectives:

• Understanding of the network, clients, types of nodes, what is inside of a client?, transactions, accounts

• Solidity programming language, data structures, deploying contracts to test network

• Interact with each other’s contract

• Overview of developer tools and architecture

• Contract to contract creation

• Understanding of the truffle framework

• Understand how to create a basic front-end for a Blockchain application

• Understand how to connect a smart contract to a front-end using web3.js

Prerequisite for day 2: 2 years of enterprise software development experience.

Instructor: Surag Sheth is a Blockchain and distributed ledger technology development consultant. He has worked with individuals, universities, and organizations to fill the knowledge gap in the Blockchain ecosystem. Over the last few yearsm, he has hosted over 350+ Blockchain educational events with 1500+ attendees in San Francisco, Palo Alto, Fremont, Santa Clara, San Ramon, and Irvine.

Working with some of the top CTOs, and engineering leads in the Bay Area has allowed him to continuously iterate on the curriculum delivered and to focus on academic objectives. He has taught at and worked with community/ co-working spaces such as Starfish.Mission, Hacker Dojo, and universities such as University of California at Irvine Division of Continuing Education, 42 Silicon Valley, and Lincoln University.

He has been deeply involved in Blockchain and cryptocurrencies since 2016 where he built his first application called HDCrypto that allowed traders to use margin lending, arbitrage, and withdrawal bots across multiple exchanges.

Currently he is leading operations, product, and development on three Blockchain-agnostic infrastructure projects for enterprises and startups currently in stealth mode. The team comprises of multiple engineers at Google, Netflix, and an entrepreneur with a successful exit. They cover the topics of rapid node deployment and monitoring, data integrity on-chain abstracted, data firehose’s, and sitational awareness analytics. Outside of the work he has done working with multiple protocols, he is a core MERN stack developer.
