Event description

Description

Blockchain for Banking and Finance

This is a roundtable afternoon seminar over lunch with talks on how blockchain can be used to benefit banking and finance, held at Hewlett Packard Enterprise in Central London.

This event will consist of talks by Hewlett Packett Enterprise, R3, the team behind Corda, the blockchain platform designed for banking, and Alan Wilson, who has 20 years experience in business and technical transformation in banking and in building blockchain systems.

Clive Cooke, Managing Director, Business Development & International Relations at R3 will speak on the Power of Blockchain, how Corda and blockchain in general can be used in finance and banking. Clive will focus on use cases of blockchain for banking, including Trade Finance and Capital Markets.

Alan Wilson will talk about the opportunities blockchain offers to simplify the complex post-trade environments that exist in financial institutions. These environments consist of a myriad of systems and technologies that have been created over many years and are expensive to maintain and can be very error prone and inaccurate, and Alan will explain in non-overly technical terms how blockchain can simplify systems, reduce errors and reduce costs of transactions. Alan is a technologist with over 20 years experience who has worked extensively in senior global transformation at JP Morgan and Barclays in technology and business and recently in building fintech and blockchain systems.

Guillaume Kendall has extensive experience of working in physical commodities and connecting them to the financial markets, from his time at Kynetix, where they set up the Commodities Blockchain Consortium in 2015 and worked closely with the LME and Asian stock exchanges to assess the viability of launching blockchain products in physical markets. What transpired was that whilst everyone wanted trust, no one wanted transparency. Guillaume will be talking about the challenges of implementing blockchain in consortia, and the potential benefits of blockchain in physical commodity markets.

There will be a short panel at the end of the talks where all speakers will give their views on the future of blockchain for banking.

There will be opportunities for networking. Everyone will have the opportunity to ask questions to the speakers. Speakers will stay around until the end to answer questions or speak one on one about any specific subjects raised.

There are a limited number of spaces available.

A two course meal and drinks will be provided.

Hosted by CCC Events, the team behind the popular Crypto Curry Club
