Event description

Description

Block Fest: forest style.

Join CounterPulse and Central City SRO Collaborative for an afternoon of community artmaking! From 3pm-5pm in the Tenderloin National Forest, a vibrant Luggage Store Gallery commons of foliage and public art, Block Fest Artist Activators will be hosting their flagship community art projects. All are welcome!

Tenderloin musician, Leroy Staples, will be holding it down with his community drumming and dance circle.

Tenderloin artist Dawn Leigh will present her Collective Community Visual Art Creation where participants can paint or collage on small canvases that accumulate toward the larger traveling mural.

Social-practice artist Ramekon O’Arwisters will host his Crochet Jam that allows participants to crochet free-form and organic sculptures and keep them as souvenirs. All materials and basic lessons in crochet are provided, however, participants are encouraged to contribute fabric to the event.

Artists Jason Wyman, Mary Claire Amable, and Celi Tamayo-Lee will invite Tenderloin community members to explore the complex identities and histories of the Tenderloin by writing prayers for their home and pose questions to one another.

Come muralize, drum, pray, dance, crochet, interact, and liberate through community artmaking at this May’s Block Fest.
