About this event

This first BLK JOY festival is organized and hosted by the Hough Youth Advisory Board with support from Twelve Literary Arts and Midtown Cleveland. BLK JOY features:

  • Live musical performances by Zo! & Tall Black Guy f/Deborah Bond
  • Live musical performances featuring Donnie Lynee, NginaFayola, and Esther Fitz
  • The 30-year reunion of the legendary Black Poetic Society hosted by Dr. Adam J. Banks
  • Dance party featuring DJ Walk of GUMBO, DJ Red-I, and 1800-SOS f/percussionist Patrick Graney
  • The "You Must Learn" Panel Discussion Series on the history of Hip-Hop in Cleveland hosted by Spread the Love Foundation
  • The BLK JOY Poetry Slam Competition hosted by Temple of Passions
  • Live Open Mic and Musical Jam Session
  • Live screenings of the Bone Thugs-N-Harmony documentary film "Sons of St. Clair" + other short films
  • Hip-Hop Dance Battle and Exhibition f/DJ Ernie + Hosted by the Hough Youth Advisory Board
  • Soul Talks curated by Daniel Gray-Kontar
