BLIND WILLIES

San Francisco band Blind Willies, led by singer/songwriter Alexei Wajchman, plays music as powerful as it is eclectic. Offering up a raucous blend of folk, blues, Americana, rock ‘n’ roll, and original songwriting , Blind Willies features Misha Khalikuov (cello), Alex Nash (drums), Daniel Riera (bass, flute), and Max Miller-Loran (keyboard, trumpet). They met while attending SF's School of the Arts. Accomplished across diverse genres including rock, jazz, classical, world, and hip-hop, the band has forged a dynamic and unique sound that reflects the deeply resonant American musical traditions that each player has brought to the table. Members of Blind Willies also perform with Rupa and the April Fishes, George Watsky, Goodnight, Texas, Jazz Mafia, Kev Choice Ensemble, and Marcus Cohen and the Congress.

We Arsons

We Arsons is an alternative folk trio from San Francisco featuring Mike Ballan on vocals and acoustic guitar, Tim Vickers on double bass, and Rob Mills on drums. The band is comprised of completely acoustic instruments, allowing the group to play a wide range of venues, from concert halls to subway tunnels. The music itself is a range: warm and resonant, soft and quiet at times; chaotic, powerful and raw at others, building speed and energy not usually associated with acoustic acts. Intricately intertwining melodies and complex, surrealistic lyrics blend together and play with the listener’s ear. The band shares a deep love for the 90s and considers We Arsons to be a unique fusion of alternative rock and folk.

Quinn Deveaux

The modern soul songs of Quinn Deveaux, sung in his sweet tenor over a spare guitar or carried by his band’s bright tones, evoke old images aplenty—from those gutbucket barrooms where rock-n-roll was born, to the pine-walled shacks, nearby, where its gospel-forebears rent their souls. But this artist’s singular sound, making old tones new, is Quinn’s alone. His acclaimed Blue Beat Review has been thrilling San Francisco’s lovers of rollicking early R&B, and a good time, for years. And now, with two LPs of his own fresh tunes set to drop this fall, the Bay Area’s best-kept secret is stepping out. Get on board: he’ll take you there, wherever you’ve got to go.
