Description

Join us on Thursday October 25th (6:30-8:30p.m.) for the “Blind Tasting of Grenache Wines”.

Grenache, or as it’s known by its Spanish name, Garnacha, is one of the most widely planted red grapes in the world.

Would it surprise you to know that Grenache is responsible for some of the most delicious and expensive wine in the world? From exalted regions like Châteauneuf-du-Pape to cult California wines, Grenache is just as important in the wine world as Cabernet Sauvignon.

Grenache is known for its berry flavors of bright strawberries and raspberries and notes of white pepper, with many people even saying that the wine has the unmistakable flavor of a fruit roll-up! Grenache often has a rich and juicy sensation, and many of them produced in full-bodied style.

Flight 1: In the first flight you will be introduced to the classic style of Grenache wines, produced in the well-known wine regions:

~Joel Gott Grenache Alakai 2015, Monterey/ Sonoma, California $16.99

~ Herencia Altes Garnatxa Negra 2015, Terra Alta, Spain $15.99

~ Vieux Clocher Cote du Rhone 2015, Rhone Valley France $16.99

Flight 2: The second flight will feature 3 wines in the $20 - $30 price range:

~ Atha Ruja Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2012, Sardinia, Italy $25.99

~ Domaine Bois de Boursan 2010, Chateauneuf du Pape, France, $58.99

~ Alto Moncayo Veraton Garnacha 2014, Campo de Borja Spain $29.99

Flight 3: The 3rd flight will be very special: a vertical tasting of vintages 2009, 2010 and 2011 from Svetlana’s favorite Garnacha producer - Bodegas Alto Moncayo (Campo de Borja region, Spain).

Notes from the winery: ‘Aquilon’ is the jewel in the crown, a selection of the best: the best areas and the best barrels from those areas. It is a 100% Garnacha wine from 60 to 100 year-old vines, and aged for 24 months in new barrels. A powerful wine, fleshy and fresh; it is like “tasting the very essence of the Garnacha grape”.

~Alto Moncayo “Aquilon” Garnacha 2011, Campo de Borja $155.00

~Alto Moncayo “Aquilon” Garnacha 2010, Campo de Borja $155.00

~Alto Moncayo “Aquilon” Garnacha 2009, Campo de Borja $155.00

The wines will be served with a variety of fine cheeses, salami and chocolate. The wine bottles will be hidden in brown bags, so you will need to rely on your own senses, experience and preferences to evaluate each wine. After each flight, attendees will be asked to vote on their favorite wine in that category.
